Persepolis essay
Persepolis Eassy
The graphic novel, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, is based on her life as a child and when she is growing up. She talks of Iran of how she lived her life back in the year 1980 to 1996. But the main reason it's to get a different picture of Iran. Base on the chief executive officer Johan Bennett, says that the book Persepolis is not appropriate for the 10th grade to read and they are banning this book from our District. The book Persepolis shouldn't be banned from the school.
One reason that the book Persepolis shouldn't be banned is because it teaches life lessons. For example Satrapi shows how it feels to be away from family into another country all by your self. This is important because you need to stay strong and stand up for your self when you have to(196-197). Furthermore, she tells in the book that she went away from her family at age of fourteen(147.7). This is important because at that age you still need your parents so they can guide you the right way. It is clear that the book Persepolis it teaches life lessons.
Another reason that the book shouldn't be banned is because she is not a bad role model. For example she went to Austria to keep up with her education while in Iran at that time it was at war. This is important because if she would stay at Iran the war will cause her education to stop. Additionally she feels patriotic to her country after all the things Satrapi has suffered from her country. This is important because some people wouldn't think that way if your country would limit most of your freedom(9.6). It has been proven that she is not a bad role model.
It is true that Marjane Satrapi throughout the book she demonstrates her rebelliousness by going against her parents, teachers, and government. Nevertheless Marjane still loves her parents, she tells the truth about the realy world, and stands up for her self to the government at which her grandma is proud of. This is important because she don't want to be stepped on. Therefore, Satrapi is not bad role mole.
The final reason that the book shouldn't be banned is because it shows reality. For example she tells of Iran back in the 1980 when people wanted to overthrow the shah. This is important because she tells how it was to live in Iran when the shah was ruling the country. Furthermore the shah was doing lots of killing and also the problem with the veil(40.1-2). This is important because it shows how things were, woman would refuse to wear the veil and many people would go out in the streets to protest(5.1)(38.6-7). It is clear that it shows reality.
The graphic novel Persepolis must not be banned from our school district. It teaches life lessons, she is not a bad role mole and it shows reality. By not banning the book Persepolis, the students in the 10th grade would be able to read this book in a new way of learning.
