Persepolis

                                                               Persepolis Essay
On the graphic novel, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi that is base on her life as a child and when she is growing up. She talks of Iran of how she lived her life back in the year 1980 to 1996. It also talks about all the stuff she has been through and has done in her life. But the main reason it’s to get a different picture of Iran. Base on what Johan Bennett says that they are banning this book from our schools with that being said I disagree with his statement.
Bennett also says that the graphic novel contains crass language, graphic violence, torture, sexual content, lewd humor, an instance of suicide and other images inappropriate that not general use in the 10 th. grade level. I think at that level we are mature enough to read that type of books even if it has all that. I understand that some parents wouldn’t like it but still it shouldn’t get removed for school libraries. And in fact the whole book is not base on that is base on her life on what she has been through those things. In some parts of the book it's funny, sad and interesting. But is also so people don't think  as Iranians as malevolent persons, base on what we heard about the country of Iran. In the book it tells that they had been in a revolution, in a war with one of their neighbors for example Iraq. In Iran the book has been banned maybe because they don't like the way she talks about her country or for another reason, but why should it be banned here.
Bennett also talks about marjane satrapi is not a good role mole for us because throughout the book he says that she demonstrates her rebelliousness of several ideas. But he only points out the negative things of the book but, that's not how the book goes. She also does some positive things for example goes to another country to keep up with her education because at that time Iran was in war and her parents wanted what's the best for her so she went to Austria.
With that I think Persepolis shouldn't be banned from schools. The book is just to give ideas to other people of Iran of what it's like to be or live there. I also think it's not a good book but a great book for the 10th grade to read. I really like the book and I hope for people to read it to before it's banned.
