Their is only one cure that can stop the poisoning, so Percy, Annabeth and Tyson go on a journey to the sea of monsters to find the cure for the tree and also to rescue his friend Grover the goat who is trapped with a cyclops.

2) The theme is that you will risk anything to save a friend.

3) I choose this book because I wanted to continue with the series and also at the end of  book 1 it got interesting and I continue with book 2.

4) I did make connections to my life in the way it talk about friendship, by not just caring about yourself but also about other.

5) The author's tone would be again friendship in the way Percy did not leave his friends behind.

6) Their is lots of foreshadowing in the first chapters: " I sat bolt upright in my bed there was no storm, no monster"(3). "The shadow at the window disappeared"(3). " for the first time in my life I'd almost made it an entire year without getting expelled"(4). "No weird accidents, no fights in the classroom, no teachers turning into monsters and trying to kill me"(4). "Only one more day to go surely even I couldn't mess that up"(4). Task two: know your zombies

In Angela Watercutter's article entitled The science of surviving the zombie apocalypse, she suggests that  we can survive the zombie apocalypse with science. The author supports her claim by base on the the zombie's brain that the UC neuroscientist Bradley voytek created. Like in walking dead suffered from a condition they called CDHD. The author next proceeds to show that humans can exploit many zombie deficiencies, take advantage of their amnesia by hiding until they forget about you or their slowness. Finally, the author argues that zombies have immunity to pain, zombies can't feel pain if you can kill the brain don't even try to fight it. They would not feel anything " if someone accidentally learns something about the brain along the way" Voytek said, " then I've achieved my goal."

Task one: survival basics

In Ali S. Khan's article entitled "Preparedness 101: zombie apocalypse", she suggests that be prepared for a zombie apocalypse or a real emergency. The author supports her claim by saying that you need a emergency kit with water, food, medications, tools, supplies, clothing, sanitation, bedding, important documents and first aid supplies. The author next proceeds to show that you have an emergency plan. Identify the types of emergencies in your area, pick a meeting place, have emergency contacts and plan your evacuation route. "When zombies are hungry they won't stop until they get food"(khan). Finally, the author states that the CDC is prepared to assist. It sends medical teams to affected areas and provides technical assistance.

Persepolis essay

                                                            Persepolis Eassy
The graphic novel, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, is based on her life as a child and when she is growing up. She talks of Iran of how she lived her life back in the year 1980 to 1996. But the main reason it's to get a different picture of Iran. Base on the chief executive officer Johan Bennett, says that the book Persepolis is not appropriate for the 10th grade to read and they are banning this book from our District. The book Persepolis shouldn't be banned from the school.
One reason that the book Persepolis shouldn't be banned is because it teaches life lessons. For example Satrapi shows how it feels to be away from family into another country all by your self. This is important because you need to stay strong and stand up for your self when you have to(196-197). Furthermore, she tells in the book that she went away from her family at age of fourteen(147.7). This is important because at that age you still need your parents so they can guide you the right way. It is clear that the book Persepolis it teaches life lessons.
Another reason that the book shouldn't be banned is because she is not a bad role model. For example she went to Austria to keep up with her education while in Iran at that time it was at war. This is important because if she would stay at Iran the war will cause her education to stop. Additionally she feels patriotic to her country after all the things Satrapi has suffered from her country. This is important because some people wouldn't think that way if your country would limit most of your freedom(9.6). It has been proven that she is not a bad role model.
It is true that Marjane Satrapi throughout the book she demonstrates her rebelliousness by going against her parents, teachers, and government. Nevertheless Marjane still loves her parents, she tells the truth about the realy world, and stands up for her self to the government at which her grandma is proud of. This is important because she don't want to be stepped on. Therefore, Satrapi is not bad role mole.
The final reason that the book shouldn't be banned is because it shows reality. For example she tells of Iran back in the 1980 when people wanted to overthrow the shah. This is important because she tells how it was to live in Iran when the shah was ruling the country. Furthermore the shah was doing lots of killing and also the problem with the veil(40.1-2). This is important because it shows how things were, woman would refuse to wear the veil and many people would go out in the streets to protest(5.1)(38.6-7). It is clear that it shows reality.
The graphic novel Persepolis must not be banned from our school district. It teaches life lessons, she is not a bad role mole and it shows reality. By not banning the book Persepolis, the students in the 10th grade would be able to read this book in a new way of learning.

Persepolis

                                                               Persepolis Essay
On the graphic novel, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi that is base on her life as a child and when she is growing up. She talks of Iran of how she lived her life back in the year 1980 to 1996. It also talks about all the stuff she has been through and has done in her life. But the main reason it’s to get a different picture of Iran. Base on what Johan Bennett says that they are banning this book from our schools with that being said I disagree with his statement.
Bennett also says that the graphic novel contains crass language, graphic violence, torture, sexual content, lewd humor, an instance of suicide and other images inappropriate that not general use in the 10 th. grade level. I think at that level we are mature enough to read that type of books even if it has all that. I understand that some parents wouldn’t like it but still it shouldn’t get removed for school libraries. And in fact the whole book is not base on that is base on her life on what she has been through those things. In some parts of the book it's funny, sad and interesting. But is also so people don't think  as Iranians as malevolent persons, base on what we heard about the country of Iran. In the book it tells that they had been in a revolution, in a war with one of their neighbors for example Iraq. In Iran the book has been banned maybe because they don't like the way she talks about her country or for another reason, but why should it be banned here.
Bennett also talks about marjane satrapi is not a good role mole for us because throughout the book he says that she demonstrates her rebelliousness of several ideas. But he only points out the negative things of the book but, that's not how the book goes. She also does some positive things for example goes to another country to keep up with her education because at that time Iran was in war and her parents wanted what's the best for her so she went to Austria.
With that I think Persepolis shouldn't be banned from schools. The book is just to give ideas to other people of Iran of what it's like to be or live there. I also think it's not a good book but a great book for the 10th grade to read. I really like the book and I hope for people to read it to before it's banned.

Literature Analysis #1

The Lightning Thief  by: Rick Riordan

1)When the lightning bolt got stolen, Zeus accuses Poseidon's son Percy Jackson and gives Poseidon's son fourteen days to return it, otherwise he will initiate a war amongst the gods. Meanwhile the teenager, Percy, who is dyslexic and has ADHD is visiting The Museum of Metropolitan of Art and is attacked by a Fury disguised in his teacher. His crippled best friend Grover reveals that Percy is a demigod and that he is his protector and his teacher Mr Brunner gives him a pen telling him that it is a powerful weapon. They go to Percy's house and together with his mother Sally they drive to the Camp Half-Blood. However Sally is attacked by a Minotaur and vanishes before Percy can help her. In the camp, Percy meets the gorgeous Annabeth; when they are attacked by Hades who wants the lighting bolt for himself, Percy discovers that his mother is in the Underworld with Hades. Percy decides to travel on a dangerous quest to retrieve the lightning bolt and save his mother. Grover and Annabeth join him. The way to enter the underworld is getting to L.A. When they bypass the safeguards surrounding the Underworld, they are taken to Hades, where they confront him and demand Percy’s mother back. When Percy get out s the under world he finds out that Ares has the Helm of Darkness and is angry because Percy ruined his plan for war between the gods. Ares and Percy fight, and as consequence of Percy winning, Ares gives Hades his Helm back. Hades then returns Percy’s mom. Then Percy has to go Zeus to give him the lightning bolt. Then he returns back to camp.

2)Theme : the lightning thief is all about identity and about discovering identity.

3) The authors tone was action and some mystery as you read more the he talks about who is the father of Percy.  Ex:  "Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood", son of the sea god.

4) Literary elements/techniques:
Zeus has a master bolt, and this bolt is used as symbol by symbolizing Zeus’ power.
When Percy has his mysterious dreams they show foreshadowing, each in its own way.
Also when Percy is with Luke in the Cabin of Hermes, and Luke looks somewhat peculiar, and tells Percy that he has a disliking feeling towards the gods. At the end of the book Luke appears to be the person who many didn’t expect him to be, the lightning thief.
Percy is also described as a dynamic character in the way change at the end of the story from being the boy getting kick out of schools and then the one who saved his father.

Antigone compare and contrast

In Antigone, by Sophocles Antigone and Creon they are two different persons who think differently, are different, but they both share similarities in this several ways.

Antigone doesn't care about creon's law she only cares about the god's law he cares about his own law. Antigone is loyal to her family by burying his brother polyneices. For example antigone says,” who fought as bravely and died as miserably"(I,18). She wants the help of ismene to bury him, but ismene refuses to give it to her. Ismene is afraid of what creon will do. Antigone is loyal to the gods because in scene I antigone tells ismene that she is going to break creon's law; in order to bury polyneices. Creon buried her brother eteocles because they won the battle and creon says, "eteocles who died as a man should die, fighting for his country, is to be buried with full military honors with all the ceremony"(I,34). Creon is not loyal to his family by the way he is not burying polyneices that he is part of his family to, instead he left polyneices as bird food. In scene 5 when teiresias tells him he has to bury polyneices and free antigone or he would pay "flesh of your own flesh" but creon doesn't listen. Antigone is more loyal to the god's and loyal to her family by this ways. As creon is not loyal to his family but he is to his state.

Antigone and creon they both are similar in the way they show their pride. Antigone was showing pride when she says,"creon is not strong enough to stand in my way"(I,36). She is showing pride to ismene by telling her that what ever creon does she is not going to stop. She also has pride when she says, "I do" "I deny nothing"(II,69). She goes to creon and she says I did it and I am proud of what I did. Also when the servants got her she didn't try to run away, is like she was saying take me. Creon is showing pride by the way he says,” As long as I am king no traitor is going to be honored with the loyal man"(I,50-51). He showed pride by saying because I am the king no traitor is going to have my respect. Another example that he also showed pride by saying to antigone you broke my laws and now you must pay with death. They both show similarities of pride by the way antigone went up to creon and creon by showing his power of what he can do.

Antigone and creon they both have the blame for the tragic outcome. Because antigone only wanted to bury his brother polyneices but it was against creon's law. Creon believes polyneices should be left out. Antigone told creon to kill her which he wanted, but instead he locked her in vault. Then when antigone got killed, creon pay her death by having his son haimon killed and also his wife eurydice. And now creon has to live with that curse forever.
